Overview
Do you want to make a difference in the lives of impoverished Ecuadorian children? How would you like to teach them English and offer them hope for a brighter future? Despite its richness in natural beauty, more than half of the population in Ecuador struggle with poverty. Many families are unable to provide education for their children and sadly, child labor is a major source of income for these many families. With the booming tourism sector, a world of opportunities is available to Ecuadorians with English skills with a chance to break the cycle of poverty. However, the public schools lack the funds, resources and adequate teachers to offer such valuable classes.
In our teaching volunteer program, you will work alongside teachers and teach students conversational English skills as well as help them with reading and writing. You'll also help teach in other areas of education like mathematics, computer skills, art, or music. You can also engage the children in extra-curricular activities, fun learning games and inspire them towards positivity. You will also support the local schools with administration duties and lesson planning. Your support to this program will help create a brighter future full of possibilities for disadvantaged children. Through your efforts, many children will gain the skills to come out of their unfortunate situation and help their families towards a better life. You will also provide support to the underfunded schools and bring a positive change in the community while learning valuable classroom management and teaching skills. There are no specific requirements for this program, although basic Spanish skills will be helpful.
