Overview

Our research sites in Mexico have been operational for over 12 years, offering an exceptional opportunity to delve into terrestrial and marine biodiversity surveys. When you participate in our programs, you'll be fully immersed in the unique ecosystems we study.

At our terrestrial site in the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its cultural and natural significance, you'll work closely with our experienced research team. Your role will involve collecting essential biodiversity monitoring data, which may include honing your skills in mist netting to study birds and bats. Additionally, you'll gain valuable insights into the impact of climate change on the distinctive aguada habitats in this region.

Our marine site is situated in Akumal, a charming coastal town nestled between Tulum and Playa del Carmen. Akumal is an integral part of the Mexican Caribbean Biosphere Reserve, and our research efforts have contributed to the establishment and maintenance of this marine protected area. During your stay, you'll have the option to complete your PADI Open Water Course, becoming a certified diver. Alternatively, if you're already certified or prefer snorkeling, you can enroll in the Caribbean Reef Ecology course, which includes a series of informative lectures, hands-on workshops, and practical sessions in the water.
