Overview
Social welfare institutions offer opportunities for dedicated individuals to make a positive impact on marginalized groups. These include neglected and abandoned children, street children, abused girls and women, and troubled youth. Volunteers with backgrounds in social work, psychology, and education are welcome, but they must be open-minded and patient to tackle the challenges of working with these groups.
These institutions provide clients with essentials like shelter, food, clothing, education, and healthcare. Older clients receive livelihood training to boost self-sufficiency upon reintegration into the community. Some, particularly girls, remain at risk from their perpetrators, requiring close volunteer involvement, especially in education. At times, these clients simply need a compassionate listener and mentor.
Important Information
While volunteers are assigned to their specific programs, Volunteer for the Visayans (VFV) offers side projects that they may get involved with during their down time. VFV supports over 300 children sponsored by individuals from all over the world. Volunteers could get involved by helping prepare lunch for the children who come our three communities. They may also help out with tutorials.
Kids could benefit from a native English speaker. Reading and comprehension and spelling are some of the areas that our children need help with. Every month we distribute groceries and other essential items to our sponsored kids. From purchasing, to sorting, and distribution, we could also benefit from the assistance of volunteers. VFV is also involved in various community projects which are donation based.
Whenever we have outreach activities, we ask volunteers to join us. Our side projects serve as a way for the volunteers to see the different facet of the organization. We are not simply an organization that offers volunteer opportunities. We do more.
