Overview
This program offers a valuable opportunity for individuals, including professionals and students, to gain insights into public health practices in the Philippines. Students can learn how public health operates in a developing country, while professionals can engage in public health work. Volunteers are encouraged to actively participate in various clinic activities and programs, but they must be proactive and fully committed to making the most of this opportunity.
In the Philippines, each town has its own rural health clinic, serving as a free walk-in community health facility. These clinics, staffed with a doctor, a public health nurse, nurses, and midwives, provide essential healthcare services, including basic consultations, prenatal checks, normal childbirth assistance, and access to medications and vaccines. The clinic staff also conducts community health education, both at the clinic and in villages.
Important Information
While volunteers are assigned to their specific programs, Volunteer for the Visayans (VFV) offers side projects that they may get involved with during their down time. VFV supports over 300 children sponsored by individuals from all over the world. Volunteers could get involved by helping prepare lunch for the children who come our three communities. They may also help out with tutorials.
Kids could benefit from a native English speaker. Reading and comprehension and spelling are some of the areas that our children need help with. Every month we distribute groceries and other essential items to our sponsored kids. From purchasing, to sorting, and distribution, we could also benefit from the assistance of volunteers.
VFV is also involved in various community projects which are donation based. Whenever we have outreach activities, we ask volunteers to join us. Our side projects serve as a way for the volunteers to see the different facet of the organization. We are not simply an organization that offers volunteer opportunities. We do more.
