Overview
If you’re passionate about horses, ponies, and donkeys, the Horse Sanctuary and Rehabilitation project in South Africa is the perfect opportunity for you! Join a dedicated team of horse rescuers at an equine sanctuary, where you’ll assist with daily care, socialization, rehabilitation and treatment of these magnificent animals. You may also be involved in occasional horse rescues and educational initiatives across the country. While prior experience in horse riding and care is a great advantage, it’s not required—this project offers a fantastic opportunity to learn the basics of horse care while making a meaningful impact.
- 3 meals a day, shared volunteer accommodation, meeting you at Cape Town International airport, airport collection and drop-off, pre-departure support, in-country staff, 24- emergency help and more.
- Flights, visas if needed, travel insurance and spending money for free time activities.
Important Information
Duration and Logistics: The project runs weekly from Saturday to Saturday, with pickup and drop-off at Cape Town International Airport.
Accommodation: Volunteers stay onsite with local staff and receive provided meals.
Duties: Includes feeding, grooming, cleaning tack, walking, socializing, and general farm work.
Typical Day:
06:00: Feed horses.
07:30: Breakfast.
08:00: Morning duties with horses.
12:00: Lunch break.
14:00: Afternoon duties.
15:30: Feed horses.
17:30: Dinner and leisure activities.
