Overview

Do you want a life-changing experience traveling in Thailand while providing much-needed care and kindness to the needy elephants?

Unfortunately, the lives of the elephants in Thailand are in danger. A place once known as the Land of White Elephants now faces redundancy and mistreatment of the elephants. Ever since logging has stopped in Thailand, these elephants have become a burden for the elephant owners. Taking care of these gentle giants is expensive and challenging for the mahouts. As a result, many elephants are taken out into the city streets for begging for money, which is pathetic and dangerous. IFRE Volunteers’ Thailand elephant volunteer program works with the local community members to promote elephants’ care and protection.

As a volunteer, you will be working with local organizations. Here you will learn to interact with elephants by riding, washing and feeding them. You will play with the elephants regularly, be involved in gardening and farming activities, and keep the elephants healthy through medical treatment.

At times, you will teach the locals about the importance of animal rights and conservation, promote fundraising activities, and search for resources. Give yourself an opportunity to walk side-by-side these majestic creatures, and change their fortunes forever.

You do not need any prior skills or experience to join. However, you should have a great love and passion for animals, as well as a deep desire to see them thrive and be happy. Additionally, you need to be able to go outside your comfort zone, as you’ll often work outside meaning you’ll get wet and dirty.
