Overview

Embark on a day’s adventure to Benin to discover its glittering palaces, floating villages, and python-filled temples, a country that has always moved to its own beat. Enjoy your local cuisine, from filling your belly with fried beans and yams to paddling across a lagoon or following in the footsteps of slaves. This trip is filled with engaging, curious, and amazing experiences.

  • Day 1 - Cotonou-Ganvie- Ouidah- Abomey

    After breakfast, we will drive to Ganvie best know as the Venice of Africa, is a lake village created in the 16th century by Toffin people running from slavery. It is home to more than 37 000 inhabitants. The locals live on water and, the markets are on canoe. The only way to go to the village is by motorboat. Proceed to Ouidah, the capital of Voodoo in Benin. It is the city of Houeda people and the main slavery market in West Africa. Here we will visit the sacred forest. It was a place the king of Kpasse kingdom used to rest and believed to have turned into a tree when he got old. Nowadays, the people of Ouidah offers sacrifices to the tree every year. Everyone can also make a wish there but, you have to follow the instruction of the guide of the forest. We will also visit the slavery route in Ouidah and later drive to Abomey- Dinner and overnight at Sun city hotel or simila.

  • Day 2 - Abomey - Djougou

    After breakfast, embark on a city tour in Abomey you will visit the historic museum, the royal palace, underground house of Agongointo close to Bohicon among others. Abomey kingdom was one of the most important in the South of Benin. In the afternoon, we will drive to Savalou to visit the Dankoli voodoo temple. Dinner and overnight Hotel Cathas or similar.

  • Day 3 - Djougou. Taneka

    After breakfast, en route to Taneka Koko village, an authentic village with some special houses and history. Proceed to Koussounkoingo in Boukombe to visit the village to learn about their history, culture, and unique houses. Overnight at Tata somba.

  • Day 4 - Taneka- Savalou

    After breakfast, we will visit the Fulani villages and Kota waterfall . In the afternoon we will drive to Savalou, an arrondissement in the Collines department of Benin. Overnight at Hotel F&F or similar.

  • Day 5 - Savalou- Ketou - Cotonou- Departure

    In the morning we will drive to Ketou to visit the royal palace; the city and Holi people in Issaba. We’ll explore the drums market in Adjarra and drive back to Cotonou where we will visit the artisan market to get yourself a souvenir before being dropped at the airport for your onward flight.
