Look forward to a circular hiking tour through the Upper Black Forest – Germany’s warmest region between the North Sea and the Alps. Between the Titisee and Bernau, the region presents its most beautiful sights as e.g. cool glacial lakes, deep valleys and summits with spectacular views.

The hiking region of the Black Forest surely is an impressive area: stunning summits alternate with deep valleys and deep blue mountain lakes and thus turn this region into one of Germany’s most attractive hiking destinations. This hiking tour starts at the Titisee and leads you up to the Feldberg Mountain, which has the highest peak of the entire Black Forest.
You continue your walking holidays through the winter sport village of Todtnauberg until you reach the beautiful high valley Bernau. Before returning to Lake Titisee at the end of this hiking week, you pass through quiet mountain valleys until you arrive at the shores of Lake Schluchsee.
- Day 1 - Individual arrival to Saig
After your arrival, get into the mood of your upcoming Upper Black Forest hiking tour while taking a walk through the climatic health resort of Saig.
- Day 2 - Saig – Hinterzarten (approx. 16 km, walking time: approx. 4 – 5 hrs)
The first stage of your walking holidays in the Upper Black Forest leads you away from the plateau of Saig right through the calm forest of the nature reserve Rotmeer. After having passed the valley of Bärental, you reach a hiking trail, which leads you steeply uphill. Hiking on one of the most popular hiking trails in the Black Forest called Westweg, you continue through swampy countryside until you arrive at the village Hinterzarten.
- Day 3 - Hinterzarten – Feldberg (approx. 16 km, walking time: approx. 4 – 5 hrs)
Leaving Hinterzarten behind, you hike to the ice-age glacial lake Feldsee. After you had a pleasant break at this picturesque site you follow a narrow trail up to Seehalde near Präg, which is one of the biggest block dumps in the Southern Black Forest. A quiet mountain inn on top of the Feldberg awaits you for today’s night.
- Day 4 - Feldberg – Todtnauberg (approx. 17 km, walking time: approx. 4 – 5 hrs)
On today’s hiking tour you pass by fragrant flowers and herb meadows up to the summit of the Feldberg. Enjoy this phenomenal view from the Feldberg’s peak after having had a steep but short ascent. The Feldberg is the highest summit you can find in the Black Forest. Keep following the Westweg trail and descent smoothly into the vivacious village of Todtnauberg.
- Day 5 - Todtnauberg – Bernau im Schwarzwald (approx. 18 km, walking time: approx. 5 – 6 hrs)
The hiking tour continues downhill the southern slope of the Feldberg until you reach Todtnau. Enjoy stunning views over the surrounding area while you ride up the mountain Hasenhorn on a chairlift. From up here you walk alongside the Prägbach creek passing waterfalls until you arrive at the high valley Bernau. This high valley counts to one of the most beautiful ones in the Black Forest due to its spacious forest and meadow landscape.
- Day 6 - Bernau im Schwarzwald – Schluchsee (approx. 23 km, walking time: approx. 5 hrs)
The highlight of your hiking holidays is simultaneously the longest stage through the southern area of the Black Forest. Passing a former silver mine, you continue todays hike along the Schluchtensteig trail – another very popular hiking trail in the Black Forest. This trail leads you up until you reach the mountain hut Krummenkreuz. Here, it is worth taking a break. Before you are able to enjoy the spectacular view over Lake Schluchsee, let the beautiful forest landscape once more work its magic. The largest lake in the Black Forest and the health resort Schluchsee are today’s travel destination.
- Day 7 - Schluchsee – Saig (approx. 23 km, walking time: approx. 4 – 5 hrs)
Look forward to your last and calm stage of your walking holidays. Along the shores of the Schluchsee you hike to a small village called Falkenau. One more steep ascent until you have finally reached Titisee – the starting point of your circular hiking tour through the Black Forest.

You start your individual journey back home having lots of great and unforgettable memories. Let the most beautiful hiking moments between Schluchsee and Feldberg pass in review. You are more than welcome to extend your hiking holidays through the Upper Black Forest with an additional night in Titisee and thus end your Black Forest vacation even more pleasantly.
