- Day 1 - ARRIVING ON KALAMOS ISLAND
Arrive in the port of Kalamos' main village where you will be met and transferred to Kalamos island biological field station, a welcome meal will be offered to you as well as dinner at a local restaurant later that day, following a brief tour of the village.
- Day 2 - FOREST EXPLORATION
After an early breakfast, we have a presentation in the main field lab area about the station and the ecosystems of the areas, including threats to it. We then proceed to do a walking tour of the Kalamos pine forest with a focus on birds and other wildlife, followed by a swim in one of the crystal clear beaches at the edge of the forest. We visit a seaside castle and learn about the history of the area and this special monument. We then return to the field station by ferry and learn about marine habitats and coastal cliffs as important conservation areas for the region. After dinner we will go on a night time tour to look for nocturnal wildlife, such as bats and frogs and learn and more.
- Day 3 - SCRUBLAND EXPLORATION
The day starts with an early breakfast, followed by having a go at making sugar cane juice in the farm that surrounds the Kalamos island biological field station. We then go on to explore the south part of the island to see the Mediterranean scrub and learn about the importance of this habitat, followed by lunch and a swim. The rest of the day is free for people to explore the village and surrounding area.
