Overview
Our High School Specials are open to teenagers who are full-time students and aged 15-19 years old. Every project is structured with weekend excursions, evening activities, observational work, hands-on service, and sessions of teaching. These programs typically last from two to four weeks so that volunteers will be able to maximize their time and to really earn a community service credit or as a noteworthy part of a college application.
High School Specials are structured specifically to take into account the needs and potential issues facing less traveled volunteers who are younger. We modified our programs to take full advantage of youthful optimism and energy in order to accomplish real goals.
Our High School Specials Programs are designed specifically for teenagers and are international volunteer projects that are service-oriented. This program was created in 2008 and came out of our interest in making a program geared to high school students interested in volunteering overseas. Our High School Specials are a group of four projects that have facilitated an abroad experience for over 300 youth from across the globe to assist on service projects in Ghana.

Important Information
Special provisions have been made to our program to support the unique needs of young volunteers so that they too may have the experience of a lifetime. Teen volunteers will have the opportunity to work side-by-side with local people on a project of their choice, while sharing perspectives and fostering cultural understanding.
Volunteers will also participate in daily Cultural & Learning Activities, fully supervised by our English speaking staff. These activities may include local dance or cooking lessons, athletic events, and activities with local teens, arts and crafts with local artisans, language tutoring and visits from guest speakers discussing local issues. These activities are designed to be both fun and educational, putting the volunteer work into a cultural context.
The program will also include structured, supervised Free Time, for individual exploration and reflection. Free Time options will take place some afternoons and evenings, and these activities may include trips to the local internet café, trips to artisan markets, an evening at a local cinema, and guided walks around town, or dinner at a local restaurant.
