Overview
Do you want to gain hands-on, practical experience in conservation while enjoying the lively and unique town of Pai, Thailand? We are a small organization with big goals, and we’re looking for incredible interns to help us achieve them!
Environmental Conservation Interns can choose from one of the following focus areas that best match their interests and career goals:
1. Forestry Management
2. Sustainable Agriculture
3. Wildlife Conservation
4. Environmental Research
1. Forestry Management Internship Description
CNF has developed a remarkably successful approach to reforestation, and we need the help of driven and creative individuals to help us take the next steps. Using the Australian Framework Species Model, CNF transformed degraded agricultural land into a lush demonstration forest brimming with biodiversity. Interns will be expected to participate in every stage of the reforestation process, from seed collection to plantings in designated community forests across northern Thailand.
2. Sustainable Agriculture Internship Description
CNF’s main site is home to an organic farm and demonstration forest where we utilize permaculture and agroforestry techniques to model sustainable agricultural practices for the local community. Currently, most local farmers depend on a slash and burn agriculture system, which can drain the soil of nutrients and pollute the air. Interns will work alongside our talented and knowledgeable Thai and hill-tribe staff members to expand this portion of our project.
3. Wildlife Conservation Internship Description
Are you passionate about animals and hoping to gain caretaking and husbandry experience? CNF is currency home to two endangered elongated tortoises (Indotestudo elongata) and one Asian elephant (Elephas maximus). We have the potential to start new projects, possibly focusing on local snakes or birds, with the help of knowledgeable interns.
4. Environmental Research Internship Description
Conserve Natural Forests is the perfect base for conducting your individual- or group research projects in the environmental-, biological- and earth sciences. We are also happy to cater to faculty-led groups or citizen science initiatives– please contact us to discuss the opportunities. Additionally, we have numerous projects in the works that require assistance with preliminary research, including watershed management and eco-corridor development.
Do you have a relevant degree or experience in one of these fields and wish to gain more skills and build an eye-catching resume? Are you a driven, self-starter with the motivation to tackle independent projects? Sounds like you'd thrive in an internship with CNF!
Important Information
Why Intern With Conserve Natural Forests?
CNF stands out amongst other international internships because it allows for each intern to find their niche while working and living in Thailand. Unlike traditional internships that stress a 9-5 lifestyle in an office setting and give little room for creative thought and flexibility, CNF gives interns the freedom to be creative in their own light, thus benefiting the organization while also developing their own personal skillset.
There is a range of experts on the team that can act as either supervisors or mentors. We emphasize teamwork, effective communication, and collaboration. Due to the small nature of our organization, these skills are critical for the success of the operation and making sure things move along smoothly. If you are interested in wildlife and environmental sustainability projects while also exploring and discovering a new culture and way of life, please apply for one of these internship options! If you are interested in making a difference on an international scale, and connecting with other young, spirited individuals from around the globe, then look no further!
