Mayan Families, a registered US 501(c)3 organization in the US, works in partnership with our legally-registered Guatemalan partner association to implement our programs on the ground.
Mayan Families works in the Lake Atitlán region of Guatemala to implement community-led programs that address systemic barriers and build cultural strength and resilience. Our work is driven by the expertise of Mayan staff and community leaders towards long-term, meaningful change in the areas of education, nutrition & health, and economic development.
Today, the results of historical oppression and systemic racism means that across the country, Mayan communities are under-resourced and disproportionately prone to serious inequities in education, health & nutrition as well as economic development. In the rural communities of Lake Atitlán, Sololá, which are served by our mission, we work from the strong belief that the Mayan community can and must drive community solutions and lead our effort, in the same breath as we recognize that everyone deserves the opportunity to achieve education, health and economic development, which are human rights
Mission
Advancing education, nutrition & health and economic development, through community-led initiatives which build on existing resources and knowledge.
Vision
Mayan communities in the Lake Atitlán region of Guatemala are strong, vibrant and self-sufficient.
