Overview
Spend an enriching week exploring the enchanting city of Barcelona while gaining insights into the impactful work of a local NGO dedicated to enhancing the lives of its residents. In addition to marveling at Barcelona's renowned landmarks, you'll delve into the NGO's operations, providing support to underserved communities through initiatives such as food banks, elderly care, and childcare.
As a participant, you'll also immerse yourself in the vibrant community by participating in yoga, meditation, dance, and other activities. This unique opportunity allows you to experience Barcelona from two perspectives: its beautiful tourist attractions and its resilient, hopeful, and energetic local communities. Forge meaningful connections with like-minded volunteers on this extraordinary journey. We eagerly await your participation!
The trip lasts one week
- Day 1 - Wednesday 15/02: Arrival and accomodation
The participant gets picked up at the airport and accomodated in a hostel in the famous Passeig de Gracia. After snacks and rest we make a stroll through Barcelona's center. In the evening, the participant is shown around EnriquezArte center, we take a refreshing class of yoga and share a dinner.
- Day 2 - Thursday 16/02: Urban Permaculture Farm + Climbing Workshop
We make a trip to an independent permaculture farm located in the charming La Vall de Can Masdeu, where the participant learns about food sovereignty and ecological farming. After a delicious, self-produced lunch, we take off to a climbing workshop designed to push your boundaries and elevate your spirit. We end the day with a shared dinner.
- Day 3 - Friday 17/02: Elderly Residence Visit + Homeless Food Distribution
We begin a day with a heartwarming visit to an Elderly Residence, where the residents will share their experiences, knowledge and laughter with us. After lunch we participate in a workshop on homelessness and related issues, then we split into two groups: one prepares the weekly Open Mic event, the other distributes food to homeless people in the center of Barcelona.
- Day 4 - Saturday 18/02: City Sightseeing by Rooftop Bus + Montjuïc Walk
We take a double-decker bus trip through the heart of Barcelona to view the greatest attractions of the city, such as Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, Casa Batlló, La Rambla and more. Afterwards, we take a walk through the majestic gardens of Montjuïc and head back for dinner and a Collective Intelligence workshop.
- Day 5 - Sunday 19/02: Parc de la Ciutadella + Barri Gòtic + Barceloneta
We stroll through serene and beautiful Parc de la Ciutadella, enjoying its beautiful architecture, then head to Barri Gòtic, an unusual, impressive and antique part of the city. After a lunch in Plaza Real and a shopping break, we talk a walk through the picturesque Barceloneta Beach.
- Day 6 - Monday 20/02: NGO Insights + Trencadís and Meditation Workshops
We begin with an insightful presentation of operations of our NGO, then continue with a trencadis class, where we find out about this cherished mosaic tradition. After the lunch we take a refreshing meditation workshop and share a dinner.
- Day 7 - Tuesday 21/02: Food Bank + Self-defense Workshop
We begin the day with Morning Glory, a daily ritual of exercise and meditation. Tuesdays are the day of Food Bank - a heartwarming day on which we prepare boxes of aliment for locals in need. Once finished, we enjoy a Collective Intelligence workshop, where we play games and get to know each other better.
- Day 8 - Wednesday 22/02: Check-Out + Goodbye Ritual
Depending on the time of flight, the participant might be given time for shopping or other activities before being taken to the airport. Thank you so much!
