- Day 8 - Travel to Lake Mutanda and Bwindi
Your safari today will continue southwest toward Kisoro, a lively town to the south of Bwindi Forest, near the borders to Rwanda and Congo. This is one of our preferred drives in Uganda taking 6 hours. The meandering roads wind through lush rainforests, going around hilltops (keep your eyes open for the volcanos!), and dipping into lively villages in the valley before arriving at the serene waters of Lake Mutanda.
Gorilla Tracking is the main highlight of a visit to the southern parts of Bwindi Forest, but you are also in the perfect place for volcano hikes, birding, nature and culture walks, and canoe and paddle board excursions. The sunset scenes are unforgettable so make sure to find your way to the veranda in time for sundowners.Accommodation: mutanda lake resort.
- Day 9 - Gorilla tracking Bwindi and Batwa community walk
After an early morning breakfast, you will be driven to the park headquarters for the briefing session about the gorilla trackers' code of conduct from the park’s guides. Thereafter, you will get ready, to start a lifetime memorable experience in this magnificent forest for gorilla tracking. Trek through beautiful nature and spend one hour with the gorillas. This Impenetrable Forest is also full of birds, butterflies, and plant species plus forest hogs, forest elephants, sitatungas, and dikers.
The trek may be tough and slippery at some points but it all supersedes the excitement of viewing the gorillas at the end of the forest tour (This may probably be the highlight of the whole safari for you!) As tracking Mountain Gorillas will be rewarded with a signed Gorilla tracking/trekking certificate with your name on it to show to family and friends. Return to the lodge for refreshments and a few minutes of relaxation before you get into the Batwa community walk, a people indigenous to the Ituri forest of Congo.
