Overview

Volunteer at an animal sanctuary in South Africa's Eastern Cape, where you’ll provide hands-on care for a diverse range of exotic and indigenous animals and birds. These creatures are in captivity and non-releasable due to past injuries, being former pets, human habituation, or because they are not naturally native to the area.

The animal sanctuary spans a vast area, offering volunteers a wide variety of rewarding tasks and special moments with the animals. As a volunteer, you'll work closely with a team, tackling duties together, including the twice-daily feeding routes. You'll be on duty for five days with two days off, giving you ample time to explore the beautiful beaches of nearby Jeffreys Bay—South Africa’s surfing capital—wildlife reserves, and other local attractions. You can also hike in the adjoining nature reserve to birdwatch or spot wildlife like giraffes, zebras, and antelopes.

The sanctuary is home to around 250 bird species, including Ostriches, Emus, Hawks, Owls, Black Eagles, Pygmy Falcons, Blue and Crowned Cranes, Secretary birds, Macaws, African Greys, Cockatoos, Amazon parrots, and many more.

Additionally, the sanctuary and the adjoining nature reserve are inhabited by a diverse range of animals, including Servals, Caracals, Ground Squirrels, Marmosets, Porcupines, Genets, Tenrecs, Grysbok, Steenbok, Blue and Common Duiker, Bushbuck, Kudus, Springbok, Goats, Giraffes, Suni, Zebra, Blesbok, Impala, Nyala, Wildebeest, Waterbuck, Crocodiles, Tortoises, Bearded Dragons, Snakes, and other reptiles.
