Overview

The Wildlife Project, situated 45 minutes from Port Elizabeth on 6000 hectares of diverse terrain, hosts various wildlife, including the BIG 5, amid grasslands, sub-tropical vegetation, and unique flora.

Participants must arrange flights directly to Port Elizabeth, arriving before 4 pm on a Monday to catch their shuttle to the project. This program offers an authentic African experience while aiding local wildlife and the environment.

Facilities include fully furnished staff housing, with separate accommodations for male and female volunteers. Recreational options are limited on-site, but city getaways are available every other weekend.

The reserve includes a "plains sanctuary" for orphaned and injured non-dangerous animals and a successful lion rehabilitation camp. Recently, the reserve welcomed its first white lion cub, which, after initial challenges, is now thriving and will soon have its own enclosure.

Important Information

The wildlife programme is based in Port Elizabeth and participants need to book their flights directly from their home country to Port Elizabeth. The programme begins on a Monday and ends on a Sunday. Participants must arrange their flights to arrive at Port Elizabeth airport before 4 pm on Monday to be in time for their shuttle which collects them at the airport and transfers them to the wildlife project. The programme is designed for volunteers that are interested in having a truly African experience while making a difference to the local wildlife and environment.

Activities include, but are not limited to:
* Removal of alien vegetation in and around the reserve
* Wildlife structures
* Tree planting and landscaping
* Fauna and flora work in the nursery
* Wilderness trail walks and patrols, etc.

There are shared accommodation - males and females will be separated. Meals and activities will be with the rest of the volunteers.
