Overview
Volunteer at a licensed Monkey Rescue, Rehabilitation, and Release Center in the lush province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. This unique volunteer project offers two critical roles in the ongoing care and protection of Vervet Monkeys, who face numerous threats in the region.
Throughout the year, volunteers are essential in assisting with the rescue and rehabilitation of monkeys, helping to care for those in large enclosures as they prepare for release, as well as providing special care for those with specific needs. Vervet Monkeys, though not endangered, face serious challenges in South Africa, including illegal hunting, car accidents, attacks by dogs, and cruelty from humans involved in the bushmeat trade.
During the baby season, which runs from late October to March, volunteers take on the vital role of surrogate mothers to orphaned baby Vervet Monkeys. For the first three months of their lives, these babies require constant care and nurturing before they begin the long process of rehabilitation and eventual introduction to a troop, ensuring they can be safely released back into the wild.
Join us in making a meaningful difference in the lives of these vulnerable monkeys while experiencing the beauty and diversity of KwaZulu-Natal.
