Volunteer With Children & Animals At DAKTARI

DAKTARI Bush School & Wildlife Orphanage, located near Kruger National Park in South Africa, is a local NGO founded in 2006. It aims to educate and inspire local children to appreciate their environment and promote community development. Children participate in a five-day Environmental Education Program where they learn about their natural heritage and help care for non-releasable animals, fostering a sense of empathy and respect for wildlife. Volunteers from around the world teach these lessons and guide the children in animal care.

DAKTARI also extends its impact through an Outreach Program, including a weekly ECO Club and Wildlife Crime Campaigns, to further engage local communities and encourage environmental stewardship. The program is fully supported by volunteer payments, with 100% of funds going directly to the charity.

Volunteers at DAKTARI not only teach and work with animals but also immerse themselves in local customs, language, and cuisine. The experience includes learning about Sepedi culture, enjoying traditional food, and exploring South Africa through various trips. The program runs from mid-January to mid-December, with flexible stay options ranging from 1 to 12 weeks, starting and ending on Saturdays.
