Overview
The Animal Welfare program, situated in Northern Tanzania, conducted extensive surveys within local villages to improve the welfare of animals in the region. These surveys formed the empirical foundation for strategic decision-making, guiding the allocation of project resources and design components.
The program's primary mission is to address the five fundamental freedoms of animals, a concept unfamiliar to many local farmers: Freedom from hunger and thirst, discomfort, pain, injury, and disease, fear and distress, and the ability to express normal behavior.
A supplementary fee of $100 directly supports the acquisition of equipment, outreach initiatives, facility development, and enhanced service provision for animals.
Expect a different approach and adaptability, even if you are experienced. Insufficient resources, limited staff, and a substantial number of street animals pose challenges. Trust is earned, and both busy and slow days are part of the experience.
Volunteer duties encompass vaccinations, wound treatment, autopsies, check-ups, and training. Working with Maasai tribes to care for and train their animals is also part of the rewarding experience.
Despite cultural differences and resource limitations, this program offers opportunities to learn and make a positive impact, supporting local businesses and families.
